Mindarika Process Engineer Interview Questions & Answers
1. What is the role of a Process Engineer in automotive manufacturing?
A Process Engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving manufacturing processes. The role includes troubleshooting process problems, improving productivity, reducing rejection and downtime, setting process parameters, supporting new products, and implementing continuous improvement activities.
2. What is 8D problem solving?
8D is a structured problem-solving methodology used to identify the root cause of a problem and implement permanent corrective actions. It involves steps such as team formation, problem description, containment, root-cause analysis, corrective action, validation, and prevention of recurrence.
3. What is the difference between 5 Why and Fishbone analysis?
5 Why involves repeatedly asking why a problem occurred until the underlying root cause is identified. Fishbone analysis, also called an Ishikawa diagram, categorizes possible causes under areas such as Man, Machine, Method, Material, Measurement, and Environment.
4. What is Poka-Yoke?
Poka-Yoke is a mistake-proofing technique used to prevent human errors or detect them before they result in defective products. Examples include sensors, interlocks, orientation checks, presence/absence detection, and fixture-based error prevention.
5. What is Kaizen?
Kaizen means continuous improvement. In manufacturing, it involves making systematic improvements to processes to reduce waste, improve productivity, enhance quality, reduce cost, and improve workplace safety.
6. What are important process parameters?
Process parameters depend on the manufacturing operation. They may include machine settings, temperature, pressure, speed, force, cycle time, torque, position, and other parameters that directly affect product quality and process stability.
7. What is TPM?
TPM stands for Total Productive Maintenance. It focuses on improving equipment effectiveness by involving operators and maintenance teams in preventive and autonomous maintenance activities.
8. How would you handle a sudden increase in rejection?
First, I would contain the affected production and identify the exact defect. I would then check recent changes in material, machine, method, manpower, measurement, and process parameters. After identifying the root cause using tools such as 5 Why or Fishbone analysis, corrective action would be implemented and its effectiveness verified.
9. What is Lean Manufacturing?
Lean Manufacturing focuses on creating maximum customer value while reducing waste. Common areas include reducing waiting time, excess movement, transportation, inventory, defects, overproduction, over-processing, and unnecessary motion.
10. Why is process validation important during new product development?
Process validation confirms that the proposed manufacturing process can consistently produce products meeting the required quality and process specifications. It helps identify process risks before regular production starts.
